Takeoff
I have been blessed in my life to be able to ride in a couple of airplanes for travel purposes.
My absolute favorite part of plane rides is the takeoff. I LOVE it.
In my most recent travel experience, I was trying to figure out why on earth I do love the takeoff so much… And thus, I did some analysis (of course I did) and think I figured it out!
I love the takeoff in a plane:
~because you can feel the intensity and the power of the engine. It’s consuming.
~because there’s freedom from gravity. As you lift off, you break from the normal and the initial feeling of that is liberating.
~because you have to lean back in your chair. I like this. I’m grateful for the support of the seat holding me up.
~because of the excitement of a beginning a trip, or subsequently of going home.
~because of the excitement of flying over the clouds.
~because you have no control and are forced to trust the aircraft, to trust in the ones guiding the plane.
~because of the angle of the apparatus during takeoff. You have to lay your head back and look up. Because of this angle, you can view the world in an almost perpendicular way.
Does any of that sound familiar…?
I love the journey of fellowship with my Lord:
~because you can feel the intensity and power of His love. It’s consuming.
~because in Him, there is freedom from whatever is holding you down or holding you back. When you release yourself to our God, the initial feeling of that is liberating. And He liberates us daily for the rest of our lives. (Matt 11:28)
~ because you have to lean on Him to make it through this life. He’s your support. He holds you up. I’m grateful for that.
~because of the excitement of beginning your spiritual journey, or of going home…to the place that we were created for.
~because of the excitement of being elevated to the status of God’s children, above the angels, by way of His sacrifice but foundationally of His love.
~because God’s in ultimate control and you have to trust in the plans of the One who is guiding your life.
~because of the your angle when you are living with the Lord. “I lift my eyes up…” (Psalm 121) Because of this angle, you are viewing the world from a different perspective…through a view that’s not parallel with the ways of the world—it’s vertical…perpendicular to how the world thinks and acts. And thus, you are viewing the world from His eyes.
So. This is why I love the takeoff. This is why I love my journey.
