Marriage: Year Two

So....better late than never?!  (Posting this as we are now in the middle of marriage year 4! Eek)

Our second year of marriage was a good one!  It was a year of growth, for sure, but a positive year full of love and happy memories.  We overcame several challenges in the first year of our marriage, so the second year really felt stable and a bit more like a mountaintop.

  • We celebrated our marriage in Costa Rica (October 2016)!  Such a fun trip filled with zip-lining, coffee tasting, 4-wheeling, yummy food, RAIN, hikes, and more!

  • Blu was in full-blown nursing school throughout our second year of marriage and it was challenging, but he was dedicated and he worked his butt off!
  • Blu and I learned how to communicate better with one another during this particular year.  Some subjects that are particularly sensitive got easier to talk about as we learned to be honest and gentle. Intentional and kind.
  • We both had some family dynamics that really improved throughout that time!  And we got a lot closer to Xan, as a family.  Instead of feeling like we were constantly in transition, our second year of marriage really felt like we could dig deep into the dynamics of being a [part of the time] family of three!
  • We went to Thailand May 2017!  We worked with two long-term missionaries over there and had a blast.  What an experience.  The first time to any Asian country for either of us, and it was a completely different world.

  • Blu was noticed, seen, and asked to be a leader in a lot of ways during this year. We both had many commitments on our plate, but especially Blu. I loved seeing his talents being used in a healthy, godly way. One of the things we lead together was our youth trip to Brazil.  It was SO fun to introduce my "new" husband to my Brazilian family that had known me since high school!

I am super thankful for Year Two of marriage. It was a needed, fun, lovely year full of travel and good, good things!  I hope it made us both better people.  ~Cheers~
